By now you have probably read this post on my blog. If not, clicky on over there, man.
The other day I kinda thought it would be fun to have a contest. Then, I was cleaning out a junk drawer and found a $25 gift card to Canvas On Demand. Now, I have been needing to order new canvas of my little chickens, but I just haven’t had the time to find the perfect picture. And, I am in a rut.
SO.
I give you, a contest. Go out and shoot. Shoot until your brain hurts. Edit a little different, try new things!
Do something you have never done before. Try the golden hour, shooting in full sun or shooting at 7am!
Whatever your little heart desires. Just break out. Break out of your normal every day stuff.
Email me your pictures by 10pm EST tomorrow, June 12. rachael@goodytwoshoesphotography.com. I am not giving you a topic, because, well, I couldn’t think of one. I am just looking for something that pushes the limit. Something that is different from what you normally do, but still has YOU in it. I will be looking at your blog and or website.
I will pick the top 5-10 pictures that I love, then I will have a public voting in comment form on my blog.
Easy and fun!
Try and shoot something that you would use that $25 gift card to Canvas on Demand for.
ANY one can enter.
Have fun and don’t hurt yourself.
Oh, and here is a picture because I can’t stand to blog with out one. I give you, my two youngest brothers.

Here is my one picture from today. Well, yesterday. I am 30 minutes late.
I love it. The sun was setting and she was trying to reach out and grab all light coming through the window.
she also has ET fingers.

Are you challenging yourself to break out of your normal and be a little different? Maybe I should have a contest….

“If you only do what you know you can do- you never do very much.”
-Tom Krause

i have been having a crisis of photography faith lately. in fact, i struggled with myself about this very blog post. i didn’t know if i should say what i have been feeling for so long publicly. (i don’t want my clients to think i am an inept photographer!)
there has to be someone else that feels like i do. and if there is just one other person and about i had made their day a little better by letting them know they aren’t the only one, then i did my job.
i am tired of getting ‘inspired’ by someone else and their work, whether i mean to or not. i am tried of feeling like a sub par (at best) photographer. i am tired of looking at another photographers work and longing that i could only be 1/2 that talented.
i am tired of swimming in the sea of same.
before i looked at other blogs, joined photography websites etc, i was a horrible photographer. i didn’t know how to use photoshop and i had no idea about most of the general things.
but.
i loved it. i took 100 pictures of my kids a day and i just thought it was fabulous. i was learning. i was loving.
some where between there and here, i started hating everything i did. nothing was good enough. it didn’t look like XYZ’s pictures. i had to get certain props, wood floors, do “THE” pose, get it all right. do what everyone else was doing.
sure i got the great job compliments, the happy clients, the pretty pictures. but i am not happy. i feel so uncreative and void of all emotion toward photography. i don’t like my own work.
can you imagine? i used to love this! and sure, i know what i am doing, i am confident in my abilities, but not in my creativity, i have been ignoring the “me” in my work. just doing the “sameness” is easier. i know how to do it. people like it. why move on?
and those horrible pictures i used to take? they were more full of emotion and love for photography than what i do now.
i am on a mission to find that girl. that one that loved photography so much and took interesting, albeit technically horrible pictures.
i am challenging myself (and you!) to unplug from the photography world for a while. don’t stalk the websites, the blogs, the forums. don’t run out to tjmaxx and get the latest cute chair or blanket. if you feel the same way, take at least one picture a day and post it to your blog. something that is totally different than what you normally do.
be you. find yourself.
i am desperate to find myself in my work.

of course no blog is complete without pictures. so there you go, some of little charlotte. she is a HAM.

Today while driving through the neighborhood, I saw a commotion of people and about cars. There was an auction and I knew as soon as I saw it, I had to be apart of it.
For a whooping $29 I walked away with an antique doll cradle, a vintage beat up rusty old trike (LOVE it though!) and this…..

No, not the cute baby. The highchair! I have been looking for one for such a long time. I can’t tell you how excited I was win I won it. Pouring rain, hail and all!
Baby Kali happily modeled the chair for me, isn’t she cute?!

Just one today of my littlest love.

She was unimpressed. I think she knows they are weeds and not flowers.

This past month my youngest has started giving neck hugs, and they are quite possibly the best thing ever.
They are a remedy when I am worrying about how I will deal with a full year with out my husband, and my children without their father.
They are a remedy when I am feeling overwhelmed and question if keeping my business is the right thing to do in the coming months.
They are a remedy for just about anything.
Yesterday, before I took these pictures, I was changing her into this onesie because all her pj’s were dirty.
I picked her up and she did the ol’ neck hug and I started (badly) singing to her. She pressed her head up against mine closer, closer, closer and just hummed and tried to sing too.
The sun was setting and and I could see the purple flowers on the tree outside.
They don’t stay like this. Why can’t they just stay sweet and simple?
I wanted to keep myself there forever.

I never know what is the right size pictures for my blog. Too big? Sigh.
** ALSO, don’t forget that I donated a portrait package and a wedding package ($2000!! value) to St. Therese’s auction that is this Saturday. They are both in the silent auction and I believe that starts at 6pm. I won’t be there until 7ish, but if you see me, say hey!

One more time for my homies that didn’t get the memo.
Clickin’ Moms is AWESOME SAUCE.

Tomorrow (March 31st, 2010) is the last day to get 10% off using the code FRIEND.
This is not just for mommy’s, there are single women, married women with out children, and even some men on the forum!
It is truly a great place and I am happy I was invited to join 2 years ago.
If you didn’t see my before and after, check out this blog post about before I had the support of thousands of women (and men!!) just like me. A mom with a DSLR and kids that didn’t want their picture taken
This forum is more than worth what you pay a month. I can not tell you how many talented designers are on this photography forum that give away actions, templates, holiday cards, and collages for free!
Very value tool for any aspiring, or established photographer.
On that note, here is a picture of my (almost) 5 year old.
She looks 25 here. What is happening to my baby?

It’s true what they say about photographers children. They hate having their picture taken.
Of course, the day I wanted to do my own baby girls cake smash, she didn’t want to play.
These my friends, are the best of the worst. Enjoy

“I am too dainty and beautiful to put my hand into a messy cake!!”

How fast the years go by, when you have sweet little ones to care for.
I love you, Charlotte!!
